Well, it’s about to hit the fan … fat that is.

My person (the doctor) told me something “very interesting” (apologies to Sgt. Schultz) about the emotions around fat — that people don’t want, are frustrated with when shopping for new clothes, or when contemplating a new relationship.

It’s unabashed, highly charged … HATRED.

Yeah, you know I don’t mince words but it’s the truth.

Hatred to the bone.

Not frustration, not discomfort, not “wish it wasn’t there” soft statements.

Hatred.

Doesn’t have to stay that way, ’cause he tells me there’s a rapid, painless, and easy way to solve it with overnight results.

And it’s permanent.

Now — I’m all sexy and smooth (but not through laser liposuction).  My person got this amazing new hair comb that reduced house hair (and me) by 50%!  And it feels … well … wonderful.

But then, I’m a cat and what punches my buttons won’t necessarily punch yours (except for tummy rubs).

Hi — it’s been a while … so I’m reading this ad in a magazine (what — you think I can’t read?) and the ad said, “Get the Body You Deserve” and I thought it was pretty cool.  Can’t remember what they were selling, but it was a catchy headline.

Reminded me of what my person (the doctor) has been doing lately — a lot. He’s been “body-sculpting” a bunch of folks who want the body they deserve.

Especially after they’ve worn themselves out with diet after diet, and have given up on the gym to get rid of fat that just won’t budge.  

Deliriously happy clients, I must say.

He uses a laser under the skin (go figure) and then the fat’s removed (gone permanently) … and the skin tightens in place.

Now, as a cat — I haven’t the foggiest idea what a laser is — don’t care — just so my person and his clients are happy.

Now for me … all I need is a sunbeam!

Ahhhhhhhh

I want everyone on the planet to know about my person (the doctor) and his crazy SmartLipo Penny Sale.  This won’t go on forever ’cause they’re covering their renovations costs at the office with the sale (great idea — who wants interest charges?) and the response has been brisk.

When the “number” is reached … the sale’s over.

Just want to give you fair notice.  My person (the doctor) is about to launch a rant against mistreatment of cosmetic clients in the Delaware Valley.  He was fuming about it this morning — tried to calm him down — but when he gets irate about how others are mistreated nothing will stop him.

Yeah, he’s usually warm and fuzzy (not as fuzzy as I am) but he really does have your best interests at heart.

Keep an eye out for it!

Time to watch my birds and bark at them through the window.

Keep ‘em in line, ya know.

Yep — it’s true.  My person (the doctor) “tickled trout”.  Clearly, you need an explanation.

Recall he grew up in rural Canada.  ”Rural” here means a little farther drive to the Mall. “Rural” in those days in Canada meant … nowhere to go … nothing to do … unless you were self-creative and happy with what you created.

The other thing you need to know is Canadian boys often were quite taken with North American Indian culture and devoured all they could learn — especially survival techniques (all cool stuff).

My person would leave the house before dawn and be ‘gone’ all day.  His parents’ only admonition was to be back in time for supper. So what in the world was he up to?

Exploring the fields, forest (Canadians call that “the bush”), and wild trout streams. If he wasn’t tapping sugar maples for sap to make maple syrup in the spring he went fishing a lot … but that wasn’t enough — he had to do it the hard (read “Indian”) way.

He “tickled” them.

He would spot a trout behind a rock in the stream in the Big Meadow full of clusters of milkweed (where days before he collected Monarch butterfly chrysalises for his terrarium to wait for their emergence) … and then sneak up on it … until finally, flat on his belly, he would ease his arm — palm up — into the water, imperceptibly moving his hand on the pebbly stream bed closer and closer to the trout finning away behind the rock.

Finally, his hand would be under the trout and gently he’d start stroking its belly with his fingers, gradually mesmerizing the fish until it settled into his hand.

Then all hell would break loose.  

In one swift motion he’d golf the fish out of the water onto the bank.  He’d then take a picture of the flopping fish … pick it up and hold it gently (head into the current so water would flow through it’s gills and give it oxygen) and when the trout was fully aware of its surroundings it would swim away … no doubt wondering in its fishy way what the heck just happened.

The whole exercise was simply to nail one more thing he’d read was a way Indians fished — enough for him.

It’s how he taught himself patience.

What’s this got to do with cosmetic medicine?

Absolutely nothing!  Just thought you’d like to know who your doctor really is and what he did when he was a boy.

Now, all this talk about fish has made me hungry — gotta go check out my bowl.

What to write about?

Yes, I do most of my constructive thinking ON the computer before I start to write.

Ahhh — it’s come to me!

Be on the lookout for his announcement of your Loyalty Rewards program.  This is simply the most unusual thing for a doctor to do — reward his awesome clients for being loyal!

But, I like it.

Back to the fireplace where it’s toasty and I can do some snooze-thinking.

I wanna talk about stress.  It was brought home to me yesterday BIG TIME on my routine visit to the vet.  

We cats have a special “rip your heart out” moan (for sympathy) saved just for these occasions.  

My person (the doctor) simply turned his CD player to beautiful music … put his fingers through the wire of the cage door and stroked my head.  No more moaning.  I made it through the experience (expressing an appropriate amount of indignity of course) and on the way home … he did the same.

My person (the doctor) has a really big heart and a very soft side to him.  I make sure he knows he is loved — unconditionally.  It’s the least I can do.

Made me think how he handles stress — because I know through living with him that he, like you, has his share of stress.

So, I want to share with you how he does it.

I’ve noticed when my person (the doctor) is stressed he’s not his usual bouncy (sometimes really funny) self.  He gets quiet and thoughtful.

He then talks to me (’cause there’s no one else around) and says, “Oscar — something is really bothering me and I want you to know I’m not going to blame circumstances or other people for it.  It’s up to me to figure it out and either understand it — or fix it.”  He has no clue I understand … though he’s been suspicious lately.  Like when he says, “It’s bedtime” and I run up the stairs to our bedroom.

Back to how he handles stress ….

He will put on his beautiful music (like Jim Brickman’s piano playing) and begin to write.  He writes a list of what’s bothering him — and reasons he thinks ‘why’ and then action steps necessary to remedy the situation.

Then he takes action.  Sometimes his action is imperceptible — like closing his eyes and just “being with his feelings” — not suppressing them — just experiencing them until they dissipate.  He told me once that this was the hardest thing for him to learn — because of the natural tendency people have to want to keep bad feelings around so they feel justified feeling badly towards someone.

I looked at him quizzically one day — asking him why he felt so strongly about this.  He smiled and said, “What possible good can I be to others if I carry all of this useless emotion around?”  ”Besides — I feel better about myself afterward — and my troubles seem smaller Oscar.”

Heavy stuff.  Humans are so complex and carry so much hurt around.

I feel sorry for them.  Glad my person (the doctor) has at least figured some of this out.

Holy Cats! (Now, where did that phrase come from?)

Have been spending a lot of time in front of the window … strategically placed so my butt’s near the cozy fireplace and I can still see BIRDS.  Yep — the equivalent of cat TV. 

You see, my person (the doctor) put up a bird feeder just for me. :)

No — I can’t get to them ’cause of the window — but they sure can make your tail twitch, know what I mean?  Wait a minute — maybe you don’t.

Something must punch your buttons though — and I’ll bet it’s Christmas (or whatever Holiday you celebrate.)

So I’m taking the opportunity to wish you and yours …
